There’s Been a Scottish Invasion December 3, 2007Posted by smooregasbord in Around Town.
Well, this past weekend was the annual Scottish Christmas Walk and Christmas Marketplace in Alexandria. We really just go to hear the bagpipes and see all the Scottish Terriers. We were especially excited about the Marketplace this year because it had moved to the GW Masonic Memorial. Last year, and in previous years, it was held at the Campagna Center which was just too small and crowded. There were a couple of vendors that really stood out to us this year…some old and some new.
Over the Moon Designs creates wonderful photo locket jewelry. The designs have a victorian, yet modern, appeal to them. We purchased a necklace as a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law last year which was a huge hit. This year we bought a bracelet for my aunt. I typically go ahead and put family pictures in them and then they can change them out at a later date with more current photos.
B Fara Designs was another favorite with their monogrammed portable cooler totes and bags and, my personal favorite, the monogrammed towel wrap. They also had tennis racquet bags made from various gorgeous fabrics that could also be monogrammed. The only problem with those is that I don’t play tennis or know of anyone who does, but they would make a beautiful gift for that tennis player that you know!
Last, but certainly not least, was The Sugar Cube. They actually have a store located in Old Town Alexandria which I didn’t even know existed. They had an assortment of candies and treats. My favorites were the ENORMOUS handmade candy canes (in peppermint and cinnamon), peppermint jewels, and the caramel coated marshmallows. I didn’t purchase any chocolates, but they featured a rum raisin truffle that looked delicious. Casey tried some of the toffee and said that it was also delicious. I definitely look forward to visiting their store.
