Last night, I was watching Nightline and they did a story on the use of stem cells to improve joint issues suffered by animals. It was quite intriguing and currently this procedure has only been used in horses and dogs. Basically, fat deposits are taken from the animal and sent off to a company (Vet-Stem) who extracts the stem cells. The extracted stem cells are then injected back into the ‘patient’. There is little chance of rejection since you’re using cells from the patients’ own body. Owners have reported seeing vast improvement in their pets within the first month. Ain’t technology grand?!
