Just after we moved to the DC area a few years back, one of Casey’s coworkers invited us to a Wine Tasting Party that he and his wife host annually. The basic premise is that you bring a bottle of red wine that costs less than $15. When you arrive, you are given a glass, ballot, and pencil. Your bottle is taken from you and placed in a paper bag which is then numbered and “put into circulation”. They make it a little tricky to identify your own bottle because they do not number the bottles sequentially. You then mingle throughout their house, tasting the wines and giving them a ranking of 1 (least favorite) to 5 (most favorite). At the end of the night, the votes are tallied and the top three wines are announced.
This past Saturday marked their fourth wine tasting and it was a lot of fun! It’s a great opportunity to meet a lot of new people and try some delectable, yet inexpensive, wines. There were approximately 40-50 wines at this year’s event, and here are the top three for 2008:
My personal favorite was the cab shiraz from Mattie’s Perch. I gave it the highest ranking out of the wines that I tried.
