away_we_goOne of my girlfriends got several passes to go see the movie Away We Go, so we had a little girls’ night out. I read several reviews in Us Weekly and People that had only given it 2 stars. Opinions vary, so last week we all headed to the theater to see if this movie was all it was cracked up to be…or not.

On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 5 all the way.  It was a complete laugh riot! So much so that half way through the film I leaned over to Nicole and said, “No more laughing, my face is starting to hurt!” They couldn’t have picked a better cast.  While the scene with Allison Janney’s character (Lily) provided for belly-aching laughter, the scene where they have dinner with Maggie Gyllenhaal’s character (LN) was by far the most hilarious in the entire movie! If you’re looking for a great date night movie, I highly suggest this flick…it’s equally funny for both guys and gals.

Note: If you’re at all Prudence McPrude like myself, then the opening scene will have you covering your eyes and blushing like a twelve year old girl. Just a warning.

I love clothes! There’s just something about clothes that can change everything about you. Besides the obvious, they can affect your mood, provide comfort, and give you a creative outlet. That being said, I do live in the DC area where the cost of living can often times put a damper on my clothing budget.

Enter my new favorite site, Polyvore. By signing up for a free account, you can mix and match your favorite outfits online from designer frocks offered by YSL to more wallet-friendly finds from Forever 21. You can then add accessories from head to toe. If you’re not up for creating your own ensembles, then you can get inspired by the thousands that are posted by other users. You’re even provided links to purchase each of the items featured in a set. I love to pull pieces from different designers and different stores and pair them together to see how they look…something that’s near impossible in the real world!

My Life in Rewind June 8, 2009

Because life sometimes takes the controls and runs with it…

ing ga bibsBack at the very end of March, I ran the ING Georgia Half Marathon in Atlanta. I was joined by my hubby, my dad, my three sisters-in-law, one of my brothers-in-law, and a few friends. It was fun to get together with everyone and share in this event.

ing ga medalUnfortunately, for me, due to my procrastination with training, it was too little too late as they like to say. I pushed too hard on the distance with not very many weeks remaining before the race began. In short, I injured my IT band prior to the race and that injury manifested itself BIG TIME at about mile 7 on race day. I haven’t given birth to a child, but it was some of the worst pain that I’ve had to endure. Despite my knee injury and the bazillion hills on the course, I managed to finish. I wasn’t thrilled with my time, but I was happy that I pushed through and crossed the finish line!! Most everyone else that I was with ran personal bests which is quite impressive given the difficulty of the course.

Although it’s a bit belated, CONGRATS to all the finishers!

donut glowTomorrow is National Doughnut Day.
Seriously.

Krispy Kreme will be giving one doughnut to each customer, no purchase necessary.
Dunkin Donuts will be giving one donut to each customer with a beverage purchase.

When that sign is ablaze, my mouth begins to water.
Isn’t it great to live in a country that celebrates hot, fried dough covered in a sugar glaze?!

Three’s A Crowd June 2, 2009

purex-3-in-1-laundry-sheetsYou know how the old saying goes, “Two’s company, three’s a crowd.”  I don’t know if I believe that old adage, especially in this case.  Target is the vortex that sucks my bank account dry.  You go in for one or two things and the next thing you know you’ve meandered into sections of the store you never intended on visiting and you’re sending your hubby back to get a buggy.  Well, such was the case for us last weekend. However, I stumbled upon a new laundry product that has me totally smitten…the Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets. It’s your detergent, fabric softener, and dryer sheet all rolled into one premeasured fabulous little sheet. While we don’t own a high efficiency machine, the 3-in-1 sheets also work for those as well. I haven’t done a cost comparison to see if they end up being more or less expensive than purchasing each product separately, but I sure do love the convenience. Besides, if you visit their website, you can score a coupon. I’m a very tactile- and smell-oriented person and these sheets play to those very “weaknesses”, making our clothes super soft with an “i just want to cuddle up on the couch and watch RHW” scent.
